About
Welcome to Mar Y Tierra Lubbock, a culinary gem nestled at 2531 82nd St, Lubbock, TX. Here, the spirit of traditional Mexican cuisine meets warm Southern hospitality, creating an inviting atmosphere for food enthusiasts and families alike. With a mission to serve heartfelt dishes that remind you of home—like your abuelita's cooking—this restaurant has quickly become a local favorite.
Stepping into Mar Y Tierra, you will instantly be enveloped by the vibrant energy and faint melodies of lively music, perhaps a bit loud as some patrons note, but it only adds to the charm. The aroma of fresh ingredients and spices wafts through the air, enticing your taste buds even before you take your seat. The commitment to quality is evident, as customer reviews consistently praise the food as “amazing”—a testament to the kitchen's dedication.
One must-try item is their famous menudo, which one observer described as “life-changing”. This hearty dish features a perfectly seasoned broth that ignites the senses, harmonizing with tender hominy and spice that lingers just enough to make it memorable. And if you're like Javier Palacios, who described it as a motivational speech in a bowl, you’ll understand why many call it a must-have. Don’t miss the barbacoa burrito, either—this culinary cushion of shredded goodness is stuffed generously and will leave you feeling like you’ve just bitten into a cloud of happiness.
The appeal of Mar Y Tierra goes beyond the flavorful plates. The highlight of dining here is the BYOB experience that lets guests elevate their meals with their drink of choice. As noted by Deedee Hunter, bringing a favorite bottle can turn an ordinary meal into a celebration. It’s a rare offering that enhances the community-like feel, inviting you to share laughter and good times with friends and family.
Breakfast lovers will rejoice upon trying the breakfast burritos, which have earned rave reviews for their mouthwatering flavor. Donna Reick remarked on the cleanliness of the new location and the courteous staff, paralleling the excellent food quality with top-notch service. It’s this trifecta—a cozy environment, attentive service, and unforgettable meals—that makes Mar Y Tierra Lubbock a recurring dining destination for people like Guillermo Perez, who find themselves returning weekly.
In conclusion, whether you're on the hunt for a cozy brunch or a hearty dinner, Mar Y Tierra Lubbock is a joyous culinary retreat that guarantees satisfaction. “ Food is ALWAYS great. Service is exceptional..music a TAD to loud..bit otherwise we love to go there. Once or twice weekly ”
“ The food here is amazing, i ordered the create your own enchilada plate w/ beans and rice.! The best part of the dining experience is its BYOB.! You can even bring in a whole bottle of alcohol of your choice.! I was amazed.. ”
“ The waitress was slow very unresponsive to refills. Silverware was clean. Barbara was excellent. sopapillas were okay, Flan was excellent. Huevos Rancheros was excellent. Bathroom was clean. After Kindness that the one worker at this restaurant showed me will make me a return customer. ”
“ If you’re looking for a place that feels like a hug from your abuelita — but with more salsa options than you knew existed — Mar Y Tierra is the spot. First off, the menudo here isn’t just good — it’s life-changing. The broth is spicy in the best way, like it’s giving you a motivational speech with every spoonful. Tender hominy, perfectly cooked beef, and that slow-burn spice that clears your sinuses and your bad decisions from the night before? 10/10. Now, let’s talk about the barbacoa burrito. I’m convinced they had to call in extra reinforcement to roll it — that thing was stuffed with so much juicy, flavorful barbacoa it felt like eating a small, delicious pillow of happiness. Every bite was a reminder that life is too short to eat small burritos. And the salsa bar... Oh, the salsa bar! It’s like someone asked, “How can we make people even happier?” and the answer was: “More salsa.” Green, red, smoky, spicy, chunky, smooth — if salsa were an Olympic sport, Mar Y Tierra would have a wall full of gold medals. Plot twist: We also tried the pancakes. Let me tell you, they were so warm, fluffy, and perfectly crisp around the edges, I had flashbacks to sitting in my grandma’s kitchen — except here, I didn’t have to do the dishes afterward. They’re the kind of pancakes that make you seriously consider ordering breakfast and lunch at the same time. And I can’t forget the staff — some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Everyone was so friendly, smiling like they actually wanted you there (which, sadly, is rare these days!). It felt like visiting family, if your family actually liked you and brought you endless drink refills. Final verdict: If you leave Mar Y Tierra hungry or grumpy, that’s a personal problem. Five stars, two thumbs up, and a full, happy heart. Bring your appetite — and maybe a nap schedule for afterward. ”
“ My first time at new location on 82nd Street and I found it to be wonderful. The employees were courteous, the restaurant was clean and breakfast burritos AMAZING!! I will definitely be returning for lunch or dinner in the near future. ”
“ Very clean and friendly atmosphere. Their servers are attentive and always smiling. The food is amazing . ”
“ The food is wonderful here! Everything tastes very fresh. The flavors authentic. Whenever I am at a location that serves chips and salsa, I always have a hard time getting enough chips and salsa and drink refills. So that's probably just me. I'm not a fan of the music videos playing on the large screen. The music is fine, but some of the videos were a little risque for my taste. Wouldn't want my son's to see that. Thankfully, there is seating where the screen cannot be seen, but if we go with a larger group all the seating is in the main area where are the screen is visible. Again, this is probably*just me.* ”
“ My first time going here was last night & it was a wonderful experience. Food was delicious, service was great, prices were great and we had a LOT of food. The people at this restaurant are doing things right! Will definitely be coming back! ”
